June's Journey: Resilience, Recovery, and Returning Home
June arrived at Bedford Hills in June 2026 after a hospital stay. A painful right knee had been troubling her for some time, worse than she realized, and after a fall she was hospitalized and told the knee needed to be drained due to swelling and infection.
She came to Bedford Hills with limited mobility, reduced strength, ongoing pain, and an elevated fall risk. Progress was slow at first, and being away from home and her loving husband brought its own emotional challenges - but June met all of it with remarkable resilience. She started out relying on her wheelchair, but gradually built up strength through increased transfers in and out of bed and her wheelchair, working toward standing and longer periods of improved mobility.
With the unwavering support of her husband, the dedication of the Bedford Hills staff, and her own strong determination to return home, June has made significant strides: she now has full range of motion, can manage a step, ambulates more than 50 feet, and transfers with moderate independence using a device.
June is deeply grateful for the exceptional care and support she received at Bedford Hills. She felt fortunate to be in an environment that fostered her healing and progress, and was especially thankful for the guidance and knowledge of the therapy team, along with all the caring staff who supported her along the way. June's positive outcome is a testament to her hard work and the dedication of the Bedford Hills Rehab and Nursing staff.
